Story

Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione, the #1 car at the 1993 Monte Carlo Rally.

The Lancia Delta is one of the most successful cars in rally history. Across its four evolutions it won a total of 46 World Championship rallies and brought Lancia six consecutive manufacturers' titles (1987–1992). That record still stands.

This #1 car belonged to Carlos Sainz. Having become world champion with Toyota in 1992, Sainz carried the number 1 in 1993. That season he had moved to the semi-private Jolly Club team, which ran the cars of a Lancia that had withdrawn its factory support. The by-then aging Delta was behind its newer rivals.

At Monte Carlo, Sainz set the fastest time on three stages, but a crash on a patch of ice dropped him from nearly fourth place to 14th. The rally was won by Didier Auriol, who had moved from Lancia to Toyota.

1993 was the final season of both the Delta's top-level rally career and Lancia's WRC adventure.
