Taxicab

Story

The 1975 Checker Taxicab is the yellow cab driven by Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) in the 1976 film Taxi Driver. It is one of the most famous taxis in film history. The car is the Marathon model from the American brand Checker. For many years it was New York's boxy, classic yellow cab.

In director Martin Scorsese's film, Travis is a Vietnam veteran living with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and sleep problems. He makes his living driving a taxi on the night shift, going anywhere in New York, including the neighborhoods no one else wants to enter. As the grimy, neon-lit New York of the 1970s drifts past his windshield, Travis slowly comes apart. The classic American yellow Checker is practically his entire world in this film. The film even opens with its famous shot of this cab gliding out of the billowing sewer steam.

The model I have is from GreenLight's Hollywood Series 26. It is the relatively rare "Green Machine" variant.
